Obituary

By Bruce Barbour and ChatGPT (and a myriad of other unacknowledged people that ChatGPT "borrowed" information and style from) - February 2023

Just testing to see how well ChatGPT can write an obituary.

It did OK on the Bob Hawke obit. However I feel the last paragraph was repetitive and therefore not necessary. Perhaps it was added to get up to the requested word count. I requested more than 400 words. The obit was 416 word with the redundant paragraph. I probably could have done as well just by sourcing Wikipedia. But I certainly wouldn't have done it as quickly.

It is quite poor that it does not reveal its sources. None of the information is its original work - it has scrapped it from other sources, from the work of people. They should be acknowledged. It knows nothing without them.

The "Conversation":

18 February 2023.
